CIBI / Bio Research Day, May 1, 2006

Technology collaboration among area university researchers will be the focus of the CIBI / Bio Research Day held Monday, May 1st, at Louisiana Tech University's Technology Transfer Center in Shreveport.

The event is sponsored by the North Louisiana Partnership for Innovation (NLPI), the Consortium for Education, Research and Technology of North Louisiana (CERT) and the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana.

The symposium is designed to enable research faculty from the CERT institutions in North Louisiana to come together and discuss, in an informal setting, bio-related research programs (through presentations and posters) in order to promote new research collaborations.  Themes to be discussed include:

  • Computational Biology / Bioinformatics
  • Cancer Biology
  • Microbiology / Biodefense
  • Environmental Science / Ecology
  • Biotechnology / Nanotechnology
  • Human Disease / Pharmaceuticals or Drug Discovery
  • Cell Biology / Biology
  • Biomaterials / Biosensors / Biodevices
  • Neurosciences / Neural Engineering

Invited speakers for this event are: Dr. Russ H. Read, Executive Director of the National Center for Biotechnology Workforce at Forsyth Tech Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Dr. Werner Braun, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

"The universities of North Louisiana have a good history of collaboration, and our researchers in the Sciences have been especially active in recent years in forming partnerships.  Events such as this are important both for showcasing the results of those partnerships and for providing the inspiration for new collaborations," said Dr. Paul Sisson, Dean of the College of Sciences at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
